Remembering the Heroes of the Past and Anticipating the Heroes of the Future
I remember like it was yesterday. Hurrying to get my three year old at the time to preschool, while holding my nine month old the phone rings. I answer knowing it was one of my closest friends, as it was part of our daily routine to talk on her way to work. I remember picking up the phone and before I could even get the words "hello" out. She asked me, "What is happening?" I wasn't sure what she meant but as I watched on TV I saw a plane burning in one of the towers. "I'm not sure, is it a movie?" As soon as those words came out of my mouth a second plane flew into the second tower! "It's real." my friend said. My oldest son asked why the planes were hitting the buildings. "I'm not sure." I responded. I called my husband immediately, as he was on his way to work on the train to Chicago. I asked him if he heard. "Heard what." he said. I told him that two planes had collided into the twin towers and that he needed to come home because they were thinking that the Sears Tower would be next. He still didn't understand. "They're saying it's terrorism, please hurry home." At that point I could here cell phone after cell phone ringing. The cascading sound of cell phones allowed me to believe that it was true.
Today we honor those of the devastating incident of nine eleven and their families. They will never be forgotten.
At our photoshoot today we remembered the Heroes of the Past, and anticipate the Heroes of the future.
